I hope the following will be of some help.
Ceramic
Plates
Metal plates can be fine for your hair,
but ceramic plates are microscopically smoother and
kinder to your hair. They can be heated quicker and
the temperature can be maintained more accurately.
Ceramic also gives even heat distribution.
Ion
technology
uses negatively charged particles which
break apart water molecules into smaller ones. These
smaller particles can be absorbed more easily by the
hair leaving the hair moister and less brittle. If
when using a hair Straightener you find that your
hair is dryer and/or more brittle then using ion technology
should greatly improve the condition of your hair.
Infra Red technology seals the moisture in
the hair preventing drying out due to the heat from
the appliance.
Rapid heat means that the straightener will
heat up faster and therefore use less electricity.
This also preserves the life of the appliance. Rapid
heat can half the total time it takes to straighten
your hair. Rapid Heat needs more expensive, fast acting
control over the temperature so that the heat doesn't
shoot up straight past the desired temperature. This
is one of the differences between Straighteners when
it comes to price. A cheap Straightener can take up
to 10 minutes to reach the desired temperature. Top
of the range Straighteners can reach operating temperatures
in a matter of seconds.
Temperature can be too cold or too hot for
your hair, I recommend an adjustable temperature to
control the irons heat. If your iron is too cool for
your hair then its results will be less effective
and last shorter. If the iron is too hot for your
hair then it will dry the hair and the condition of
your hair will deteriorate.

You could go for an iron with Automatic Sensor
Control. As with the adjustable temperature control
except the temperature is set automatically by sensors
in the iron.
